Talkin’ sh*t

“[During diarrhea class], Nati said something was ‘solid,’ and I wondered, ‘is that a poop joke.'” – Adrian

“Yeah, I was losing my shit.” – me, in what should go down as the most hilarious pun of all time.

Today we went to Diriamba for some training. After lunch, we had a session about acute diarrhea, which gave us a ton of information about how we can prevent/get/treat diarrhea. In summary: we’re all probably screwed, but we have an emergency diarrhea kit and a top-notch medical team who can help us if (when) we have problems.

Apparently there’s a high chance that our poop will be different here than it was back home. No surprise there. I already made that observation on my own. I just hope I don’t get worms.

Also, I hope that if I have to give a stool sample, it can at least be a solid sample, because I don’t particularly want to carry my diarrhea in a cup on the bus so it can be tested at the lab.

We also had training on the main mosquito viruses.

(Mom, apparently one of the Peace Corps training staff had zika last week, but she said it’s totally tranquilo. It’s really not a big deal unless you’re pregnant.)

I got a few mosquito bites (on my foot and upper thigh) and I didn’t notice them until I woke up, so assume I got them while I slept. I’ll try to secure my mosquito net better.

Now that’s a first, diarrhea class. Best to be prepared I guess. Secure that net sissy! Is the much standing water or trash in you common area? Did they tell you what the best repellant would be? Waht was a new vocabulary word you learned today that you can teach me?

They gave us repellant in our medical kits (30% deet) and they’ll replace it whenever we run low! I have a little standing water around the house, but the mosquitoes aren’t awful in my area, fortunately.

Today we voted on what additional training we’d like if we have some spare time. “How to poop your pants with dignity” was tied for the winning training session, so…
